RIM has this week dropped its self in a little hot water after it announced its new BBX Platform name. Unfortunately the BBx name is already in use by another company Basis International, who claims “BBx” is the name of their software platform that it has already trademarked.
RIM has not been having much luck of late and the launch of their new BBX Platform was hoped to help it regain a little faith in both investors and consumers with its products. After a network outage for a number of days in the second week of October further dented the troubled mobile manufactures customer base.
RIM announced last week at the launch of its BBX platform.
“BBX is the next generation platform for BlackBerry smartphones and tablets. It combines the best of BlackBerry and the best of QNX and is designed from the ground up to enable the powerful real-time mobile experiences that distinguish BlackBerry products and services.”
Basis said in a statement that it was taking “swift, legal action” to protect itself. CEO Nico Spence told Reuters that the company’s patent attorney has sent a cease and desist letter to RIM requesting a response by October 31. As always we will keep you updated.
