Samsung can produce A6 chip quad-core for iPad 3

a6chip1
Apple and Samsung are “clenched” in legal disputes for more than half a year and so far Apple has managed to block the sale of tablets Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany and Galaxy smartphones in Netherlands. Even so, the two companies continue to work for the production of components for new iDevice’s and Samsung seems to have been chosen to produce the new A6 chip for iPad 3 and iPhone 5 or 6. This chip would be a quad-core, according to Korean publications, and at first could be available in three new iPad tablet due to be launched next spring.
Apple has been in talks with Samsung over shipment of its A6 quad-core mobile processor (AP) chips to be used in the next iPhone. It appears that Apple clearly has concluded that Samsung remains a critical business partner,’’ an executive from an Apple parts supplier based in Korea said on condition of anonymity.
Apple and Samsung have deals that bring in accounts of Asian companies about $ 8 billion annually, ie about 5% of total company revenues. Samsung collected from Apple more than from tablets and smartphones Galaxy so it would be natural to continue working with Apple and let the second place mobile devices. I think that Apple could implement a quad-core chip just in case that iPad 3 would have a Retina Display, which seems unlikely at present given that no other Android tablet has a screen like this.
Some analysts say that Apple iPad tablet production would start in March but I think that information received by them are more than wrong. It is very possible that Apple to be made three iPad 3 prototypes that will send them for testing in various parts of the world but more than that I do not think that would have made the company from Cupertino.

Twist Minimalist Pencil Sharpener

I am a great fan of any designs that reduce an objects functionality right down to the bare minimum without reducing its usability, and even though this pencil sharpener design has no electronic wizardry like a majority of the gadget and gizmos we feature here on Geeky Gadgets its simple form is definitely a winner in my book.
The Twist is simple stainless steel sheet of metal which has been bent to mimic a pencil shaving, and is equipped with one sharp edge which is carefully hidden under the other non-sharp edge, to stop any unwanted accidents while sharpen your pencil.
Twist Pencil Sharpener
The minimalist pencil sharpener has been designed by a team of four made up of Tianyu Wu, Yinbin Shuai, Mingya Wei & Zhengyu Lin and is currently an iF concept design entry.

Google turns on encrypted search for all logged in users

Secure search isn’t a new concept at Google. They’ve been pushing it since May 2010, when theSSL-powered padlock was first made available to beta testers who wanted to encrypt their queries on Google.com. Now, however, they’re starting to roll out always-on encrypted search to users who are signed in to a Google account.
While user safety is obviously a concern, there’s plenty of additional motivation for Google. As their own official blog announcement states, personalized search results have a great deal of value to Google. As such, it’s in their best interest to make sure that our queries can’t be intercepted by third parties.
By wrapping searches in SSL encryption, you get a little extra privacy protection and Google gets the reassurance that its delicious user search data juice isn’t getting watered down. Sites you click through to from a page of results will know you arrived via Google, but they won’t have unfettered access to referrer data that tells them what you were searching for.
It’s worth knowing that if your local Google page is a redirect (for example, you get bumped over to Google.ca) your searches aren’t currently encrypted. You can check, of course, by clicking the site information icon in your browser. In Chrome, Firefox, and Opera, it’s at the far left of the address bar next to the URL. If you’re using Internet Explorer 9, just look for the padlock icon in the far right side of the bar.
To force SSL searches, just head to https://encrypted.google.com.

NoScript Web Security Tool Now Available For Android, Maemo

NoScript is a security tool that can be used to block the execution of JavaScript, Java, Flash and plugins by websites that are viewed as being potentially malicious. Many Web-based attacks on computers are initiated by JavaScript.

NoScript's developer, Giorgio Maone, wrote on his blog on Saturday that porting the application for Firefox on Android and Maemo was not easy, as it was a full rewrite of the extension, and "there's still a lot of work ahead."

The mobile version, called NoScript 3.0a8 , includes protection against cross-site scripting attacks, in which a script drawn from another website is allowed to run that shouldn't. Cross-site scripting can allow an attacker to steal information or potentially cause other malicious code to run.

It also can block " clickjacking" another kind of attack where a user is tricked into clicking on certain parts of a Web page with hidden buttons that perform malicious actions. Those hidden buttons are delivered by an invisible iframe, which is a window that brings other content into the target website.

Nokia introduces games for NFC-enabled Symbian smartphones

Near Field Communication or NFC for short, has become one of the hottest developing technologies in the global mobile economy. NFC allows a user to tap their phone or device to make purchases, exchange info, or check in with social networking sites.
NFC itself has been around since 2002, but with the explosion of smartphones like the iPhone and the Nexus S, the market has started to see real movement in adoption of the technology. Developers and manufacturers alike are scrambling to find ways to make NFC useful for actions beyond payments.
One of the areas that makes the most sense is some type of augmented reality gaming using NFC tags to create scenarios for entertainment. Nokia has just released information and playable games that take advantage of NFC on its NFC-enabled Symbian handsets.
Using NFC cards from online retailers, or even an ID badge or other NFC chipped piece of identification, users can interact with a few simplistic games right now. The titles include a matching game where instead of using your hands to flip cards, the picture on the card appears on the screen of the phone. The handset tracks the user’s matches and keeps score.
What is interesting is that while a player is interacting with the cards, there is more than one device involved, as each player has their own device.  The units talk to each other during the game, keeping each apprised of the progress of the other users. Nokia very smartly is keeping children in mind as they develop for NFC. The company is also offering a spelling based game, where players tap out words with their phones in an effort to create as many as possible from a specific letter set, much like the game Boggle.
A less impressive NFC game that Nokia is developing is a teddy bear based app, where you “play” by tapping the phone on different parts of the teddy’s body in the order your handset tells you. It’s not something that is going to wow users, but certainly shows proof of concept for using multiple NFC chips that build actions off each other.
Below is a video of the Nokia NFC games in action. It will be interesting to see if they can take the games to a level where they appeal to the mass market, and do it in time for their Windows Phone devices.

BlackBerry maker shows new phone, tablet software

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. unveiled a new operating system Tuesday in hopes of grabbing some attention away from the iPhone and Android phones.
The new BBX system combines existing BlackBerry elements with RIM's previously announced QNX operating system for phones and tablet computers.
RIM said BBX will incorporate the reliability and security features of QNX — which RIM snagged in 2010 by purchasing QNX Software Systems. It will also enable software developers to create more advanced, dynamic apps for the devices.
RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis introduced BBX on Tuesday at the company's annual developer conference in San Francisco.
He began his remarks by speaking briefly about the service outages that frustrated tens of millions of BlackBerry users last week. He said the company restored service as quickly as possible and is working on figuring out the causes and "making this right" for BlackBerry users worldwide. On Monday, BlackBerry tried to soothe customers by offering more than $100 worth of free software to each one and giving some a month of technical support.
The disruption came as RIM, once dominant in smartphones with its secure BlackBerry email service, has been losing ground to more consumer-friendly offerings such as Apple Inc.'s iPhone and smartphones running Google Inc.'s Android software.
RIM has sold 165 million BlackBerrys through August. Apple had sold 129 million iPhones as of June, but its device has been on the market for a much shorter amount of time.
RIM has also lagged in the market for apps that run on smartphones and tablets. Its BlackBerry App World, which includes apps for its smartphones and its PlayBook tablet computer, includes more than 46,000 apps. That is just a fraction of the hundreds of thousands of apps offered for the iPhone and Android phones.
RIM, which is based in Waterloo, Ontario, is trying to encourage developers to be more prolific, though, by showing off new software Tuesday that makes it easier to build apps and get them into the company's online store.
The company's stock rose 52 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $22.91 in afternoon trading.

German Internet users have been trolling a town for 17 years!

Known as the Bielefeld Conspiracy, this is an internet meme among German internet users in which they pretend that the town of Bielefeld does not actually exists.
According to the story, a group the call "Sie" (which means "They" in German). It started as a joke in 1994, when a Usenet group posited these three questions:
  1. Do you know anybody from Bielefeld?
  2. Have you ever been to Bielefeld?
  3. Do you know anybody who has ever been to Bielefeld?
It has gotten so popular, that even though the township has created campaigns to expose the town to tourists, they still get a lot of calls doubting they exist!
Who said Germans weren't funny?

Apple iPad 2 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9

The tablet wars have just heated up immensely and we might be on the verge of an explosion right now, as Samsung has just revealed its two new weapons – the refreshed Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab 8.9. We already told you what they are all about and now comes the time for the big question – how do they compare to the new tablet blockbuster – the iPad 2?
gsmarena 003 Apple iPad 2 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
A couple of weeks ago, Samsung’s CEO said that he feels the Galaxy Tab 10.1 felt “inadequate” to the newly released iPad 2 and that some changes needed to take place, one of which was the pricing. I can only say bravo to Samsung for making such radical of a changes in such a short period of time. They actually managed to make the new Tabs even thinner than the iPad 2, measuring at just 8.6mm thickness.
And here comes a head-to-head comparison of the two new Samsung slates and the Apple iPad 2 on some of their most important features.
