As well adding their new video editing features to user accounts, YouTube has also now enabled a new tool that will allow you to convert 2D video into 3D with a single click. In the past creating 3D video use to require specialised equipment but as from today YouTube allows you to create it by selecting “Edit Info”, then “3D Video” on a video you’ve uploaded.

The new 2D to 3D convertor is currently under beta development so expect a few changes as YouTube tweak the performance and results of the new 3D conversion tool.

YouTube explains:

“We are launching 2D to 3D conversion. Once people have uploaded their 2D videos to YouTube, they can convert them to 3D with the click of a button. Converted videos will be viewable by everyone in 3D,”

Another feature added by YouTube today now allows verified users with a “good standing” toupload long-form videos, movies that are longer than the current limit of 15 minutes for most users. Read more about all three of the new features over on the YouTube blog post.

An innovative lamp has been created by designer Quentin Vaulot which allows you to pull out light along a strip and then form it into shapes to enable you to create the perfect light for whatever you might be doing.

The lamp called “Shape Is Use” only uses the required amount of power needed to illuminate the exposed lighting strip which you have pulled from the base, saving both money and the environment. Watch the video after the jump to see how the concept works.

Apple are expected to launch the new iPhone 5 shortly, one of the features that has been rumored to be included in the new iPhone 5 is NFC communications, which would let you use your iPhone 5 for NFC payments.

Now it would appear that Apple has other plans for future iPhone and iOS devices, according to a recent patent which would let the iPhone and iOS devices communicate and interact with every day things around us.

YouTube has announced the addition of a new automated video editing tool to its service called Magisto, which YouTube has now been added to the YouTube user interface as a neat little icon for easy access.

Magisto has been added by YouTube to provide users with an automated video editing tool. Simply upload your video and Magisto will take care of the rest after one click of a button. Removing the blurred out of focus elements of the video and finding the best scenes automatically. Watch a demo video after the break to see how easy video editing can be using the new YouTube Magisto editing tool.

If you would like to get further involved with the editing of your video, with another button click Magisto allows you to add visual effects including transitions, wipes, titles, and fades to name a few. If you also like a little audio with your movies Magisto enables you to add music to your video and even automatically synchronises the audio to your movie.

Hyeona Yang and Joshua Noble, who are students at the Copenhagen Institue of Interaction Designhave come up with a clever way to recycle rain water, the RainCatch Jacket.

The RainCatch Jacket collects rain water in the collar, the water is then filtered down the back of thejacket, where it is passed through charcoal filters, which help to purify the water along with a chemical process, the water is then stored in the hips of the coat, have a look at the video below.

The purified water can then be consumed with the built in drinking tubes, it certainly seems like a very clever idea.

This week Mophie has unveiled a new range of  universal juice packs which have designed to provide a device charging battery for any situation. The pocket juice packs range in battery size from the small reserve equipped with a 700 mAh battery up to the Powerstation equipped battery with a whopping 4,000 mAh power pack. In between the two is the Boost which is fitted with a 2,000 mAh battery.

The small Reserve has been created to provide a keyring backup charging device, while the Boost which is fitted with a swivel 30 pin connector and microUSB port is a mid range charger, with a faster 1A recharging mode.

The larger Powerstation battery has been designed to recharge iPods, iPhones, iPads, and anything with a USB charger at 500mAh and either 1A or 2.1A. It can also be recharged while charging otherdevices.

All three will be shipping on September 3oth and will be priced at $35, $50 and $80 for the Reserve, Boost and Powerstation respectively.
