Known as the Bielefeld Conspiracy, this is an internet meme among German internet users in which they pretend that the town of Bielefeld does not actually exists.
According to the story, a group the call "Sie" (which means "They" in German). It started as a joke in 1994, when a Usenet group posited these three questions:
- Do you know anybody from Bielefeld?
- Have you ever been to Bielefeld?
- Do you know anybody who has ever been to Bielefeld?
It has gotten so popular, that even though the township has created campaigns to expose the town to tourists, they still get a lot of calls doubting they exist!
