It has been unveiled this week that Google has been trialling its Google Street View technology indoors expanding on its Google Art Project. With the aim of allowing users of Google Street maps to be able to view the interiors of buildings and businesses.
The new service for businesses will allow customers to see the interior of their premises and is currently being offered by Google on a voluntary basis and is currently only on trial at the moment. 360 degree fisheye lenses are being used to create views of the selected businesses which are then being added to Google maps.
It’s also been rumoured that big brand names will be left out of the trials, with Google opting for smaller businesses, hotels, restaurants and gymnasiums to test out their new indoor Street View technology.
A Google spokesperson explains:
“Building on the Google Art Project, which took Street View technology inside 17 acclaimed museums, this project is another creative implementation of Street View technology, to help businesses as they build their online presence,”-”We hope to enable businesses to highlight the qualities that make their locations stand out through professional, high-quality imagery.”
Google also explained in the search site notes that all photographs taken will become its property and that they may be used for other applications. But business owners may request their removal, but the terms and conditions do not include a commitment to comply.
